Guwahati: Assam police arrested two person on Thursday for allegedly gangraped a 14-year-old girl in Assam’s Hailakandi district.
According to police, the 14-year-old-girl was gangraped by three men after kidnapping the girl.
The girl died at Silchar Medical College and Hospitals (SMCH) on Tuesday.
The arrested accused identified as Jabir Ahmed Barbhuiya (22) and Ansar Uddin Mazumder (24).
Both are residents of Barnee Breese village under Algapur Police Station.
Another accused, Jubair Ahmed Talukdar (27), is absconding.
The family members of the victim lodged an FIR at Mohanpur Police Post against three of their neighbours and police registered a case under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) and section 302 (murder) 363 (kidnapping) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Police said that as per the statements of the family members and locals, the girl was known to one of the accused persons and they offered her and another girl a lift in their car when the two were coming from private tuition classes on Monday evening.
“Some locals caught them and handed the girl to family members. A village level meeting was called on Monday evening but at around 9pm, the victim fell sick and was rushed to SMCH,” said the superintendent of police of Hailakandi district, Leena Doley.
