Guwahati, Feb 12: An army jawan was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Narengi cantonment area in Assam’s Guwahati on Saturday evening.
The deceased army jawan has been identified as Khamliyong Khap.
The army jawan who sustained injuries in the elephant attack was taken to Army Base Hospital at Basistha in Guwahati, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Sources said elephant often stray out of the nearby Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary in search of food.
The Narengi Army cantonment is located alongside an elephant corridor and often elephant passes through the cantonment area.
Meanwhile, an advisory was issued by Army officials to its personnel and their family members to move carefully from the route.
Man-elephnat conflict has been rasing in alarmingly in most parts of the Assam due to shrinking of forest covers.
