Assam: 9 arrested in connection with gang rape of woman in Hajo

Guwahati: Assam police arrested nine persons in connection with gang rape of a woman in Assam’s Hajo.

The alleged gang rape of the woman took place at Tapabari Char area of Hajo town in Assam.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family lodged a complaint on April 4, and the police came into action and arrested the main accused Altaf on April 6.

Police said the accused had lured the woman with job prospects, but instead, she was gang raped inside a car.

Altaf is a taxi driver by profession and hails from Baksa district in Assam.

According to reports, the victim is a native of Dhemaji district. The incident sparked anger among the locals in her village.

According to police, the right sides of Altab, who were also allegedly involved in the crime have also been taken into custody.

“We have arrested nine persons in conection with the gang rape incident. We have started our interogation,” said a police official.
