As the ballots in the Gujarat Assembly election were being counted, Bharatbhai Veljibhai Solanki, a candidate for the Congress from Gandhidham, put a makeshift noose around his neck in protest of alleged attempts at EVM tampering.
Malti Kishor Maheshwari of the BJP is now ahead of Solanki by more than 12,000 votes, however Solanki claimed that several EVMs were not properly sealed
Then, a clearly agitated Solanki sat on a protest in the counting chamber against alleged attempts to tamper with EVMs before tying a homemade noose around his neck. He asserted that despite his raising the issue, nothing was done.
Usually, after the votes have been counted, the counting supervisor fills out a form to record the number of votes. After completing Form 17C’s Part II, if there are no discrepancies, the officer signs the form, has the candidate or his representative countersign it, and then hands it to the returning officer. The RO then countersigns the document and gives it to the officer who is creating the Form 20 outcome sheetThe counting chamber is open to the candidates and their agents, and it was there that Solanki brought up the matter of possible EVM tampering.
According to trends as of 11 am, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which hasn’t lost an election in Gujarat since 1995, may surpass the previous record of 149 seats as it now holds the lead in 155 of the 182 seats. Despite being in power for 27 years in Gujarat, the BJP has never won an election with such a wide margin of victory
