Himachal Congress calls Legislature Party meet today, to decide on chief minister

After winning 40 seats in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, the Himachal Pradesh Congress has scheduled a Legislature Party meeting for today, Friday, at around 3 p.m. at Congress Headquarters Rajiv Bhawan in Shimla. The Congress was successful in unseating the “double-engine sarkar” of the BJP by taking 40 of the state’s 68 Assembly seats.

The leaders’ decision regarding the name of the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister makes the meeting significant. Around 1:00 pm today, Bhupendra Singh Hooda, Rajeev Shukla, and Senior Election Supervisor Bhupesh Baghel will arrive in Shimla.

Pratibha Singh, the state president of the Congress, will attend the party gathering as well. The Congress leaders will decide on the CM’s name after consultation with all the party MLAs.

With no fear of poaching, the 40 Congress MLAs will now meet at Rajiv Bhavan in Shimla. The party had earlier planned to shift the MLAs to Chandigarh. A hotel for their stay was also ready in Mohali. But after the party won 40 seats, the strategy was altered. Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, Pratibha Singh, and Mukesh Agnihotri are currently the front-runners for the position of chief executive. Three other probables including Ashok Kumari, Kaul Singh Thakur and Thakur Ram Lal have lost the elections.
