Manipur CM announces Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for violence victim

Guwahati: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Monday announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for those who lost their lives in the violence-hit state.

Addressing a press conference in Imphal, CM Biren Singh said, “The government has decided Rs 2 lakh for those grievously injured while Rs 25,000 will be given to those with minor injuries,”.

“The amount of Rs 2 lakh will give to those families whose houses have been burnt down. The Manipur government will construct all houses that have been burnt down,”.

Manipur Chief Minister said that around 60 lives were lost due to the violence. 

He informed that a total of 1041 arms were snatched by miscreants.

”Only 214 arms have been recovered so far out of the 1041 arms which were looted by the miscreants in the violence,” Singh added.

He also announced that to conduct a high-level probe into the violence.

He said that around 230 were injured by violence.

Singh added that around 20,000 people had already been returned, with 15,000 still remaining in the camps.

 “Efforts are ongoing to return these remaining individuals to their homes, including providing escorts to the airport for those who need to catch flights,” the CM stated.

The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre and the Manipur government to take necessary steps for raising security and relief and rehabilitation efforts for those hit by ethnic violence in the north-eastern state, after taking note of submissions that no untoward incidents have been reported there in the last two days.
