Meghalaya polls: CM Conrad Sangma says NPP will return power in Meghalaya

Guwahati: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma on Monday said he is confident that NPP will return power in Meghalaya.

Sangma has contested from South Tura constituency.

The NPP chief after casting his votes at Walbakgre polling station in Tura told reporters that his party will gain the majority mark in the election.

He also expressed gratitude to the people for coming out in large numbers to exercise their right to vote.

“It is a wonderful sight for democratic India to see people of the region come out in large numbers to exercise their right to vote. We are confident of coming back to power,” Sangma stated.

NPP is contesting for 57 seats of the total 60 in the seat but has not yet confirmed any post-election alliance that may follow.

Altogether, 3,419 polling stations across 59 Assembly constituencies were set up for the polls.

In the 2018 Assembly polls, 329 candidates, including 32 women, had fought the elections.
