Assam: Ragging incident in NIT-Silchar, junior student assaulted by seniors

Guwahati: A student of Assam’s National Institute of Technology (NIT)-Silchar was allegedly assaulted by seniors in the name of ragging.The incident was reported on Sunday (April 2).

According to reports, the junior student was hospitalised after being brutally assaulted by seniors in the name of ragging. The victim student has been identified as Siddhant Pathya, a fourth-semester student of computer science department of NIT-Silchar in Assam.

Siddhant had filed an FIR against some seniors at the Ghungoor police outpost in Assam last month.Recently, a student of the prestigious Goalpara Sainik School in Assam was allegedly trashed by his senior in the name of ragging on March 27.

A police case has been registered against the accused student after the incident came to light.Meanwhile, the parents of the victim student lodged a complaint at the office of the Assam director general of police (DGP).

After having stringent law against ragging, still the incidents of ragging has been reported from various institutes of Assam.
